added by joel: http://ls-ultimate.com/summerleague

I am running an open league this summer with the help of a bunch of LS members. This league will be used to promote competitive, quality ultimate, not shitty sloppy pickup.

The dates for the league will be the 1st week of June through the 2 week of July so it will overlap with summer league unless FDA realizes it does not have the numbers to support 8 teams and shortens it. Each night every team will play one game to 17 most likely.

The League will have four teams and will either be on Wednesday or Thursday. If I use Thursday then we could use the FDA fields and maybe support 2 womens teams as well. But I haven't discussed this with any one yet.

However if I use Wednesday I will have to rent fields from the Boys and Girls club and I will only be able to support the 4 open teams. The fields are scrumtralescent though and we could play on full size fields which I would love. The only down side is it will cost me at least $50 a night maybe more.

Joel, is working on an online sign up page for me where you will have to rank your athleticism, ultimate abilities(throwing, etc), and overall knowledge of the game. IF YOU DO NOT SIGN UP YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY!

It will cost around $15 to play which will cover your t-shirt, 6 weeks of play plus tournament, and party at the warehouse. This money is due the first night of play and you will not get your t-shirt or be allowed to play until you pay.

If you want to help let me know.

Are people going to bitch about this, like FDA people or something. Just wondering.

Also, yeah I'm very down, but I don't know if I will be in town. I'll see what I can do.

I think this is a good idea. To buld the frisbee machine, all parts need to be in place to move people along the track, juniors through masters. A more competitive men's team will help the college boys, as well as provide a tougher venue for the post-college and masters players. I think everyone wins. As far as bitching is concerned, when is the last time someone DIDN'T bitch about something champagne? The only complaint i can think of from the FDA is that it steals players form their league, but they exist to promote ultimate, so I don't really see that argument having weight. Also, i don't think this league will keep anyone from Coed Summer League, unless some of the old dudes break something Razz hehe. Ajax, i think the sooner we nail down fields and a day/time the easier it will be to promote it/get people there. I will help/volunteer/take it upon myself to build the NORTHWEST ARKANSAS FRISBEE MACHINE.

I am leaning towards Wednesday which would mean regular season on:
June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, and July 6th. The tournament would be on Sat., July 9th.

This would mean 3 weeks of overlap with summer league(tuesdays) but we could play on nice fields and not interfere with thursday pickup.

I can get t-shirts printed and bought for about $8 each. Does anyone know of someone who can beat that?

If my vote counts, I vote for any night other than Wed. I am excited about the prospects of this league, but I will not be able to play if it is on Wed. because I attend church.

I would love to play, but would also not be able to make it on Wednesday.

p.s. This is Luke Dockery, from Harding.

I forgot people go to church on Wednesday. I guess I'll talk to FDA people about making Thursday pickup into Open League but if that doesn't work out I will have to do Wed.

Hess-

I will probably order 52 shirts (12 players per team). I looked at the number of men that played summer league. 72 men were drafted however only about 40-50 actually played.

Hien, maybe. It depends on where FDA is practicing this summer. If we are at Lewis/Asbell 3 fields could be set up which means 2 women's and 4 open teams but if the are at walker then maybe not.

Joel, would you make this an announcement?
