I have always loved the game Risk, I have always hated that it takes 8 hours to complete a game. about a year ago, I stumbled upon a genre of board games called "euro-games". This may sound a bit geeky, but it is not to be confused with magic the gathering, dungeons and dragons, etc. which it is not similar to.

I like these games for 2 main reasons:
1) they take lots of strategy to win. (versus luck like in yatzee, etc)
2) they usually less than an hour to play (versus 8 like in risk)
They are also really fun and there is a huge community of players and fans worldwide.

So, what's my point? I'm curious to see if anyone else out there has played, heard of, or big fans of these types of games. I got a few of them for Christmas and am looking for people to have the occasional game night with. sure, it's no electro-lounge dance party starring tanner and lots of drunk dancing people, but it's still noteworthy good clean fun.

Some examples of the more popular games:
Carcassonne
Ticket to ride (game of the year 2004)
Settlers of catan

Brief summary of euro games

intersting topic

for those who don't want to spend all there money on it, you can play catan online (and it's pretty scrumtralescent 'cause the game is goddamned fucking expensive)

but for real fan anti geek community gamers, you must buy real box of games (yeah, a real object)
if someone come in europe this summer, buy it here for everybody!
every tuesday night is gaming night here, in a bar!!

Awesome, I'll set something up in the near future. Most of the games are optimal for 3-4 players, but if there are more that want to play, multiple games can be played at the same time. I think wax may be interested as well so perhaps we could have a bentonville party.

Let's play (even though I won't be able to lie to you about what the cards say, which could have been fun with other people)
