Just a reminder:

"It is assumed that no player will intentionally violate the rules; thus there are no harsh penalties for inadvertent infractions, but rather a method for resuming play in a manner that simulates what most likely would have occurred absent the infraction. In Ultimate, an intentional infraction is considered cheating and a gross offense against the spirit of sportsmanship. Often a player is in a position to gain an advantage by committing an infraction, but that player is morally bound to abide by the rules. The integrity of Ultimate depends on each player's responsibility to uphold the Spirit of the Game‚Ѣ, and this responsibility should remain paramount."

And then...
"Spirit of the Game: Ultimate relies upon a spirit of sportsmanship that places the responsibility for fair play on the player. Highly competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of mutual respect among competitors, adherence to the agreed upon rules, or the basic joy (i love to fluff) of play. Protection of these vital elements serves to eliminate unsportsmanlike conduct from the Ultimate field. Such actions as taunting opposing players, dangerous aggression, belligerent intimidation, intentional infractions, or other "win-at-all-costs" behavior are contrary to the spirit of the game and must be avoided by all players."

First rules in the book guys... I'm all for heated discussions and arguments, but here is the line to NOT cross.

I thought first rule of ultimate was 'don't get separated from your shit'.

I thought the same. The rules to this game are so hard. No wonder everyone fights.

I didn't want to get involved in this discussion, but dammit Kearney, you're cracking me up! i agree, Will. there should be some type of rule where if you get more than five fouls called on you during a game, you are ejected; maybe just three, whatever. I have seen players take advantage of the fact that they could not be ejected throughout the years, in both open and just recently last year at masters. texas and florida players are cheaters, and they do it because they can get away with it. i say that and stand by it. and as we all know, it's some BS. good luck Will, and let me know if i can help.

I agree with Wayne that we need referees. And disciplinary committees. And league infraction subcommittees.

to be clear, i support a document that EC members use to decide what to do to resolve issues that aren't resolved peacefully on the field. I don't want a minimum sentencing document based on severity of infractions. I simply favor a documented plan of action prior to anyone having to take action.

Can't we just get Roger Goodell to oversee us in addition to the NFL? He likes to dole out consequences.

Yeah, I'm not interested in ejecting people during games. What I mean is a retroactive discipline process. Player A hits player B after player B verbally insults player A. More or less, this example and behavior of that nature is all I really meant. I'm not trying to stop bogus/excessive foul calls because that just won't happen.

Yay, Champagne. Spirit of the Game.

As I remember it, through a fog, the rules of Arkansas Ultimate are...
Rule #1: Do not get separated from your shit.
Rule #2: Take your cleats with you at all times. (Or, refer to rule #1).
Rule#3: Get in the car when your captain says get in the car.
Rule #4: Never make out with king kharl Doege.

All you need to know.

Truth. Applaud. Also, that "captain" in rule #3 just changed to "Joy" in the later stages of the rules.

Yeah, I came up being told to get in the car specifically when Joy says to get in the car. Also, I had always been told 'never LISTEN to king kharl doege'...wish someone had told me the actual rule earlier on, because I have definitely made out with him more times than listened to him. And one veteran player once told me 'never date an ultimate girl'. Don't know if that was an actual rule or just some pretty sound advice.
