I was a little confused too because it says to contest the contact call, the mark may call violation... but violations reset at 1 anyway so no matter what you have to reset count.

I might be wrong if the violation is called from the opposing team, and I assume it might treated like an offensive foul? I can't find it clearly stated anywhere. Anybody find that discussion on RSD?

Some quality seasoning went into this imaginary rule.

Don't violations reset at 1? Or is it just marking violations??

Notice the second part where I said I might be wrong if... because I'm more asking for clarification than criticism... That's why we use question marks Jacob.

a violation for not dropping your count on a fast count call does but i can't think of any others

my guess is that if the marker contests the contact call, play stops and it comes back in on the same count like a foul would. but that is just a guess, so wondered if anyone knew for sure. if the count is high, maybe it comes back on 5 and if it's low, comes in on zero? i also forsee the marker not reacting and then violation gets called anyway and they get a fresh stall count, which could be a handy/dirty little trick.

for league, you can only use the contact call in over time but not the cap (j/k)

Found it:

If a stall count is interrupted by a call, the thrower and marker are responsible for agreeing on the correct count before the check. The count reached is the last number fully uttered by the marker before the call. The count is resumed with the word "stalling" followed by the number listed below:

General Rules:
Uncontested defensive foul or violation: 1
Contested foul or violation: Count reached plus 1, or 6 if over 5

For the mark to have called the violation on the contact call, it would have to fall under the second category, and so be treated the same as a contested foul. That's what I thought in the first place. Fuck you Jacob.

I think Jacob's point was that it sounded like you thought it was always reset to 1, not that if it was contested it would be at the count it was at plus 1 or 6 if over 5.

The point of the 'contact' call is to back defenders up as so many players, tend to be aggressive early in the count, b/c most throwers don't like to call a foul at stall 1-3. So now they can just keep calling 'contact' if the defender is still fouling them instead and the count starts over.

From my experience with this rule at CO Cup last year, it is pretty effective and I like it a lot. Ben has played with it all year, and although I think he was perhaps mislead a little about the rule, he sounds like he's in favor of it as well.

Now the most important question...Will this be instituted in League?

I always just called disc space when the marker made contact, but this rule seems to work pretty well and doesn't mess up the flow of the offense.
