If you're willing to work a shift during the festival, then you can get in for free. We received this message awhile back asking for help with their festivals. The college teams looked into volunteering for Harvest, but didn't have enough people.

"Hi, I work with the Wakarusa Music & Camping Festival, Thunder on the Mountain Country Muisc Festival and YMSB\'s Harvest Festival all located on Mulberry Mountain near Ozark, AR. I am reaching out to groups who may find our events of interest. Basically we are looking for groups like yours to volunteer a little time at one of our festivals. In exchange for this time, we offer free tickets and camping to the event along with a donation to your group or charity. It\'s a really fun way to raise money for your cause, whether it be uniforms or travel, while helping out greatly with mine. Each of our festivals offer a different type of music and experience. There is definitely something for everyone! I look forward to hearing back. Thanks, Kelly Hennessy kelly@wakarusa.com"

At the time, I told her our group would very likely be interested in Waka...

Wakarusa almost sounds as bad as being packed in with a bunch of hippies in muggy 105 degree weather listening to jam bands for three days straight.

So, I was reading through the New Scientist magazine the other day (like you do) and saw one of them, except it was at a mathematics and magicians convention in Seattle.. Sent my head through a loop until I saw that one of the guests was University of Arkansas mathematician Chaim Goodman-Strauss. I think they called it a "kinetic bamboo hyperboloid." There was one with over a hundred pieces of bamboo...

I'm assuming that he lives on the corner of Wilson that always has those things hanging up around the house...

Yeah he lives in my neighborhood. Those things are fucking awesome. His son's also one of the biggest/coolest stoners that I know.

Does he hang out with the other coolest stoners you know? And by that I mean, have you brought him out to league?

I think Jon has found a festival I would like less than Wakarusa.
