For anyone who's interested, I just got back from the Australian National Championships. We were seeded dead last and succeeded in a stunning upset that left us in a very solid nineteenth (out of twenty-one). We beat three different teams and went to the time cap in all but two of our other games. I think that left us 3-8 overall. Granted, the best team we played finished fifth or sixth, depending on the results of their last game - so we didn't get a chance to get stomped by the really good teams - but even so, it was a fairly solid weekend.

LS highlights (a modest way of saying MY highlights, since you guys are all apparently too lazy to travel halfway across the world for a scrumtralescent tourney): some scrumtralescent sky D's, couple of layouts on both O and D, a number of absolutely amazing high-release backhands (modestly put, of course), some scrumtralescent handling that completely shredded the sixth place team's cup....and a fifteenth place finish in the finals of the men's doolio.

It should be mentioned at this point, that yes, this is the same Ian who was routinely outrun by three-hundred pound men with club feet and torn ACL's just last semester. It is also the same Ian who had no flick and a shit backhand until very recently. Said Ian has been working out and biking 30k daily and is in significantly better shape than he was last semester.

Why am I talking in the third person? I feel like Rickey Henderson, only slower and without the scrumtralescent Ebonics. Maybe Chappy could help me out with that.

But I digress...our team kind of stunk, but we got a lot better over the course of the weekend. We could have legitimately expected to finish about 6-5...maybe 7-4...somewhere in the vicinity of eighth to twelfth if we played well...but we had a bunch of injuries. Half our team couldn't get to Brisbane until the second day of the tourney because of classes and we played the third day with only two subs because of sprained ankles and large quantities of alcohol. I heard we won the party after an incident involving several members of the South Australia team, a shotski, half a dozen bouncers, and more nudity than should be seen anywhere other than a frisbee field or a cheap porn movie.

At any rate, I played the best tournament I've ever played and actually wound up getting some MVP votes. Obviously I didn't get it...I'm still uncoordinated and short...but still. I got some votes! And not from my own team. The point being that with any luck I'll be able to crack the A team when I go back to Arkansas.

And I have no friggin clue how I wound up in the doolio. I definitely don't have a clue how I beat anyone. I'm faster, but not that fast.
