With the porn debate dying, I thought I'd try to stir some fun up with this article. Maybe it should be a poll. Who thinks this is a good thing?

"Let's be clear: while the percentage of Christians may be shrinking, rumors of the death of Christianity are greatly exaggerated. Being less Christian does not necessarily mean that America is post-Christian. "

I was pretty excited to read the article until this downer. I think religousness is in a quiescent period. Soon enough there'll be an eruption of Christianity and it'll clear the country like a bad fart. Athesists, agnostics, and all other right-thinking people (which includes 98% of scientists, 87% or engineers, and 81% of division I college professors) will move to France where drinking, fucking, smoking, and pissing are not just ok but done in the street.

not to hijack the thread, but I would argue your engineer statistic, I'd say the majority of engineers are motivated by money (in essence the religion of money, comfort and the american dream), which I would not classify as right thinking, but mearly a means to dull/bury the sorrow of their meaningless lives.

when it all comes down to it, life is pretty meaningless...chasing after the wind if you will. we all strive to find a purpose whether it is the american dream, being famous in the ultimate circle, trying to prove that everyone else is wrong and that you are right through excellent forum debating skillz, etc...

when you die, you're dead, no doubt about it. the only question is what happens next? is that the end or is it only the beginning? At that point no one still living will care about you anymore, except maybe in a passing thought of how awesome you were, the only thing will matter (if anything) is your soul.

be nice to people. If somehow the right-thinking people are wrong and there is a god, he'll be happy you were nice to people. The ultimate absurd thought is a conversation with God where he says something like listen, buddy, you were really good to everyone and a heck of a nice guy, but you totally drank alcohol before you were 21 and had sex so fuck off.
on a side note, one positive side-effect of being a good person?: more sex. 'cept for with those retards that like boys to be mean. but the jokes on them cuz they'll have to sleep with us in nice-person heaven for eternity. unless god doesn't like retards either. what were we talking about again?

In my opinion right-thinking people are those that recognize the futility of trying to answer this question. So, to me, right-thinking people are agnostics and atheists. My statiscs refer to the percentage of memebers in the American Scientific Affiliation, The National Society of Professional Engineers, and the American Association of University Professor that admit to being agnostic or atheist. I think these statistics are important because we think of these people as being smart and well-educated. If an overwhelming majority of smart and well-educated Americans either don't believe in God or think that there is no way to answer "the only question" doesn't that make you question the validity/usefulness of religion?

This is a pretty awful question. Everybody always thinks they're justified. Kill unarmed people in the Gaza strip and Americans call you murderers. Do it in the name of God and it's a Holy Crusade. Everyone will answer yes to the question.

I don't think I'm nice enough/good enough to get into heaven.

that's pretty humble of you, i bet that'll get you in, loophole humble gambit! very sneaky.

I don't want to hang out with a god who doesn't think i'm a good person. So it works out well. I wouldn't want to spend time around someone now who doesn't think i'm a good person. So who am I to change who I am just because I'm dead? Stay-true-to-yourself gambit!

Everyone knows you go to a purgatory-esque city where you get a lawyer and watch the movie of your life in front of a panel of judges and defend your life to decide if you go to heaven or not.

Awww, Hess. Does that mean you think I'm a nice, good person? I don't think getting into heaven has anything to do with how good you are. Therefore, I am not nice or good enough to get into heaven.
