The Kickstarter campaign still needs $27,000 before 3/2/13 Laughing
Now without further ado, I present my submission for Gayest thing said on the boards, 2013

Working title: Winter League - Dividing Line

Mechanics: Deckbuilding, area control, trick-taking.

Players: 4-8, ages "face punch-able" and above.

Overview: With consistent play throughout the season and a bit of luck, teams will position themselves for playoff success.
Each season starts with a draft of, say, 100 players (represented by cards), each with his/her own stats in a variety of categories (think NBA Jam).

Here's where I take liberties with the term "dividing line" (apologies to Casey Hooper, Abe, Larkin, and Matty J): Only the best 40-50 will actually be drafted; the rest will be randomly dealt to captains before drafting so that they can get a feel of their team's strengths/weaknesses going into the draft. So the dividing line is closer to halfway down the list (not top 2-3).

Anywho. The draft is only the beginning! Before each game, captains will battle with their cards (which will also include tactical cards such as "4-man cup", "Smirnoff Iced", "Wayne Delay", etc.) for control of various areas of the field (say, throwing, deep threat, cutting, decision-making, etc.). Somehow score is decided, but I'm already wasting enough of my precious (and theoretical) gym time.

Details:
The stats for each character would include some obvious categories (throwing, cutting, jumping, decisions, stamina, consistency), but would also have some things that add a random element (and local flair):
Dog/baby - when you play a card (player) with one of these symbols, roll a die to determine if they have to come off the line to talk care of their dog/baby. Edit: actually, it might be more interesting to have Dog and Baby be tactical cards that you could "buy" and then play against vulnerable opponents.
Lightweight - when your team is forced to drink, "Lightweight" players lose stats for decisions and consistency. So playing the "force the player of your choice to drink a PBR" card on Abe would be a good move. Not sure if Scott Skiles had such a weakness in NBA Jam...
Superstar weakness: Much more serious stats damage is taken when certain card combos are used. If you play "Wayne Delay" while Boy is on the field, his consistency goes to zero for the rest of the point and he has a 50-50 chance of playing for each subsequent point that game.
Superstars are also susceptible to hubris, a condition that makes them likely (by die roll, of course) to just decide that they are too good for the league at any given time and quit. Their card is placed back in the box, and everyone daydreams for a moment on what it would be like to be so great.

So you get points and bonus cards throughout the season and hope to ride out the storms during the playoffs. The design process probably won't go any further, sorry folks! But this was much more enjoyable than whatever I had planned for the gym Confused

You have set the bar high. I'm not sure I want to finish mine!
Would like to see (more thorough) predictions from Jacob, Jody, Jwill, April, KcK, Will, Mills, and Luke Dockery.

I think the teams from 4th to 8th are going to be about the same with their records. Because there's so much parity, I just placed the teams without putting much thought. Just take it as motivation.

These are going to be brief:

Black - full of good players who like to make bad decisions, especially when they are playing league and are okay with making riskier throws. hopefully abe will teach the younger guys a lot. they should be in the top tier.

White - a lot of talented cutters and defensive players who are going to struggle on windy days

Sangria - Abe Gambert finally learns how frustrating Fayetteville ultimate can truly be

Lime - will do well, i'm calling them a wild card b/c they could surprise us on how well. they have enough players who care a lot about league to give 110%.

Purple - another better defensive team that will need to be smart on offense to score...I will encourage everyone to growl at Clayton as much as possible

Yellow - a top team, but how good of shape are all these top players on the cusp of becoming masters?

Red - a catch 22 - no one but Jody could draft Jones and Jacob and get them to come out regularly and partially care - giving red the victory over orange in the finals

Blue - or should we just call them team eye candy? they should do well even without casey. i also predict he plays at least once during the season.

Orange - team Tulsa. very solid team also. I'd expect them to meet Yellow in the semis for a very hard fought game.

Tan - if their top players have endurance to play a lot of points, they'll get some W's. Of course if we get to use Dog/Baby cards, Conner should ban Star from the fields.

I think Lime will have best regular season record. Won't make it to finals.

Considering I have Brosh, Toby, ClayZ, Me, and so on....I think we put some of us at handle. I think you don't see handles because of our speed and cutting ability....

Also, I have Courtney Detring who I'm considering you do not know.

Brandon McKay is my sleeper pick who is a Handle as well.

If you think he's wrong prove him wrong like I did with your predictions about Kaplan and I's team last summer league Laughing

Why would I pay for winter league to only play once?

At least cox got blue and Matt Seaton... Probably the only two things that make me wanna play winter league
